Case study The Social Hub
The Social Hub, until recently known as The Student Hotel (TSH), is a Dutch chain of hotels and student accommodations. With its fifty locations, it rents out rooms for long, medium and short periods. In addition, each location has a restaurant and various workspaces available. Overnight stays can be reserved and cancelled, at varying rates.
Issue
Maintaining, making insightful and reading data is important for TSH. For both the hotel stays, as well as the restaurants and work spaces, TSH uses a different ERP system. In addition, two financial systems and a budgeting system with HR system are used, for the time being. All this makes loading all data very time-consuming, which sometimes takes up to five hours.
Solution
For TSH we have set up a streamlined data infrastructure. This makes the organization more agile, which makes them more resistant to changes in the BI landscape. In order to link all data and analyze it properly, we have installed multiple REST APIs on TimeXtender.
All data is loaded incrementally, making it very easy and fast. In the transformation layer, the data model for Power BI is already being worked on. Tables are already placed in the correct structure and all keys and relations are already correctly linked.
Result
Because SQL views are used, even the more complex issues, such as rotating or inflating tables, are easy to process. The entire data warehouse is loaded incrementally and it now takes not five hours but only 20 minutes!
The different facts and dimensions come together in Power BI where the data is analyzed and visualized in reports.
